Politics Right to the Polls

Minister Ahmed Assalaam

It seems like we're in a battle! All the big guns are out. That "you people" syndrome. Did I insult you? I thought I was saying something nice. Oh well. Some of "you people" ain't never going to be satisfied no matter what I do.

Did another one slip by you? You know good and well I'm insulted. I elected you to represent me. That's your job. To stand up and represent, to Congress, to the developers and speculators, to all those clicks and secret societies; to all those who do not have the peoples best interest at heart.

What do you mean you couldn't get someone to approve the right thing for the people!? We're the very same people who were already here, you know, the residents that were here before you first took office. The ones who put you in. You can't do the job, then you gotta go, because just like we put you in, we gonna take you out!

No more promises! No more forked tongue! These buildings and material things will all fade away, but the righteous man and woman will remain standing because they are firmly rooted in truth. You all need to be true to yourselves and stop all that faking. Time for all that faking is over! If you ain't gonna be real, then step back out of the way. Let the real leaders of the people, lead the people. You go over there somewhere and rule the developers, clicks, secret societies, and you own personal ambitions. That's your true agenda anyway.

What did somebody say about integrity? The store manager has a juvenile arrested for shoplifting a 50 cent piece of candy, and then latter that night he pulls up to the back door and loads a brand new color tv into his trunk. Who's the real crook? Stole the city, stole the people, stealing the land, and selling everything to the lowest corporate bidder. You know, the one that's in your click or secret society? Don't you remember when you placed the wrong hand over your heart while you gave allegiance to further divide the people and steal the land.

Whatever happened to the common good? Treating us like we good for nothing. Homeless. Strung out on drugs. Poor. Mis-educated. All by design. Yet to further our suffering, we are now displaced and disenfranchised. That gentrification program you crooks been implementing. Seen the plans from over fifty years ago until thirty years from now. You have to be mad! I don't
even see me! "All Sold."

Did you do a good job of representing the people? You know, the people?!

On September 10 and November 5, 2002, your time is through. New game back in town. The peoples people are taking the drivers seat. Grass roots organizing. The way it's always been in D.C. Our greatest leaders have always come from among the everyday people who rose through the ranks and not some bunch of outsiders who tell of a brief history in the city. Always thinking they know what is best for us. That's what kills me the most. Somebody else always thinking that they know what is best for "you people."

Time to take our city back!
